I have been a French polisher all my working life, and it remains at the heart of everything I do. French polishing is a traditional method that uses fine shellac applied by hand to produce a deep, reflective finish, enhancing the natural grain and beauty of the wood. The results are timeless, elegant, and perfectly suited to antiques, classical and period furniture, and high-quality reproduction pieces.
I began my polishing career in the 1970s during my training at the William Tillman workshops. Tillman was one of the most respected names in fine reproduction furniture, and his pieces were sold in London’s most prestigious stores, including Harrods and Peter Jones. I eventually became foreman of the polishing shop, where I was responsible for quality control, French polishing, and spray finishing.
Over the years I worked on award-winning pieces and was trusted with furniture destined for embassies, royalty and distinguished collectors. These experiences taught me that finishing is not just about appearance—it is about honouring the design and material, bringing out the very best in each piece.
While traditional French polishing remains my specialty, I also offer spray finishing services, which provide a more modern yet durable finish. This is particularly useful for furniture that needs to withstand daily use while still achieving a fine, high-quality appearance.
